Nice to seed you March 2024

Plantable cards & packages made up of glycerine, gelatine/xanthan gum, microalgae and seeds to stimulate greenery growth. The microalgae come from domestic waste water from the Lindlar waste disposal centre, Köln, Germany. The aim of the project is to give a new life and function to an industrial waste such as microalgae biomass, otherwise used for biogas production.

An essential aspect of this research is to bring the population closer to this type of waste and trigger a circular process of returning matter to the soil. The cards are designed in a small size with some impactful infromations to give the user an idea of the possible applications of this waste and at the same time leave them something that can improve the growth of their own plants. The writing and the shape were made with laser-cut moulds and then a still-liquid mixture was poured into them to obtain the desired design.

This project was realised in close collaboration with the Metabolon research centre and the CCAC, algae collection centre at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
